Jason Donovan's new production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert coming to Edinburgh Playhouse

The latest production of hit musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is set to tour the UK in 2019. Theatre veteran Mark Goucher (Hairspray, Fame, Footloose) has joined forces with first-time producer Jason Donovan to create a brand new production of the much-loved musical. The show takes to the road in Sep 2019 calling at the Edinburgh Playhouse from Mon 4–Sat 9 Nov.
Based on the Oscar-winning film, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert details the hilarious adventures of three friends determined to put on the show of a lifetime. Their epic journey is a heart-warming story of self-discovery, sassiness and acceptance featuring an array of of dance-floor classics including It's Raining Men, I Will Survive, I Love the Nightlife, Finally and many more.
The brand new production comes from singer and actor Jason Donovan who is working alongside the team behind the critically acclaimed UK production of Hairspray. Donovan performed in the original West End production of the musical back in 2009 before heading out on two subsequent UK tours making this the perfect vehicle for his new career in the producer's chair.
Speaking of the production Jason Donovan said: 'Having spent years performing and always harbouring the desire to become more involved in the creative process, I am delighted to be joining Mark Goucher as producer on this wonderful show. Priscilla is such a wonderful Australian story about diversity. It is a modern musical with a great heart.'
The tour kick starts on Thu 5 Sep at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford taking the show to a host of cities across the UK including London, Liverpool and Manchester among others.
