Startling insights into the backstage tribulations of one of the greatest blockbusters of all time
The Shark is Broken previewed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019, garnering multiple five-star reviews. Due to the show's success, it's now set to transfer to London's Ambassadors Theatre, nestled in the heart of the West End for a 10-week run from Mon 11 May–Sat 18 Jul. Presale tickets are available now ahead of the general sale on Fri 7 Feb.
The play centres around Spielberg's 1975 hit film JAWS. The story follows the three iconic actors Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss on set as they are tortuously confined together on the Orca while filming in 1974.
The trio endures endless delays, studio politics, foul weather and the constantly broken mechanical shark Bruce from which the show takes its name. As conversation deteriorates, the actors' insecurities, competing egos and excessive alcohol consumption come to light.
Written by Joseph Nixon and Ian Shaw – the son of Robert Shaw – the play draws inspiration from Shaw's own diaries. Directed by Guy Masterson, The Shark is Broken promises startling insights into the backstage tribulations of one of the greatest blockbusters of all time.
