The thrash metal legends will play in Birmingham, Glasgow, London and more

New York thrash metal behemoths Anthrax have announced a tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Tickets for all UK shows go on sale at 10am on Friday 20 August.

Support will come from raucous metalheads Municipal Waste. Anthrax have been considered one of the pioneers of the thrash metal scene alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. Their latest album For All Kings was released in 2016, and was praised for its raw commitment to the fundamentals of the metal genre.

Drummer Charlie Benante says, 'Being that we can't get over there until 2022, we're going to make sure that every show will be an eventful one.

'We won't just be playing four decades of songs to celebrate our ongoing 40th anniversary – hey, we'll be giving YOU some history! – but we just might have some brand new ones for you as well. Can't wait to see all your happy, smiling faces!!!'

Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The group is considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene from the 1980s and is part of the "Big Four" of the genre, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.
