The revolutionary pop act have spared no expense on the concerts, which will take place in the custom-built 3,000-capacity venue in the city's Olympic park, called the ABBA Arena. The shows will be performed by digital avatars of ABBA , created using cutting edge motion capture technology to make sure the band resemble their 1970's heyday.
The band also announced a new album called ABBA Voyage, their first in over three decades. The band said of the recording of the album, 'an unexpected consequence. We all felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!'
ABBA have ballooned into a cultural phenomenon since their split, with the ABBA-themed musical Mamma Mia! becoming a fan favourite on the West End, its film adaptation creating new legion of fans, and the compilation album ABBA Gold staying in the charts for more than 1,000 weeks.
