Elton John to headline BST Hyde Park in 2022: how to get tickets

John will play London's Hyde Park as part of 2022's British Summer Time events series

Elton John has been confirmed as a headliner Hyde Park's annual British Summer Time (BST) event in London next year on Friday 24 June.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 10am on Friday 10 September.

Established in 2013 The British Summer Time (BST) events are annual music festivals held over two weekends in London's Hyde Park. John will be one of the most illustrious names to have graced the BST stage, which has previously played host to The Cure, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion and The Who.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of a new album from John which he unveiled this week. Entitled The Lockdown Sessions, the album comprises a series of collaborations with artists like Dua Lipa, Stevie Wonder, Lil Nas X, Stevie Nicks, Gorillaz, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, rappers Young Thug and Nicki Minaj, and is set for release on Friday 22 October.

Discussing the album, John says, 'Some of the recording sessions had to be done remotely, via Zoom, which I'd obviously never done before.

'But all the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I'm known for. And I realised there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I'd come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.'

Jim King, chief executive of European festivals at AEG Presents, says, 'BST Hyde Park has always stood for the world's biggest and most loved artists bringing not just a performance but a truly one-off and memorable event.

'Elton John has provided the soundtrack to the lives of so many of us and to know that his last tour is coming to Hyde Park, possibly the last time many of us will ever see him play, is one of the most important and 'must see' nights of BST Hyde Park ever.'

John is also preparing to restart his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which will run until May. John has previously stated that these dates will be his final bout of live performances, potentially making his gig at London's Hyde Park his last ever show on stage.

Also confirmed to play BST, which have been cancelled for the last two years due to the pandemic, are Pearl Jam on the 8 and 9 July, and Duran Duran on 10 July, alongside Nile Rogers and Chic and Grace Jones.

More artists will be announced ahead of the shows next year.
