Is Swedish House Mafia's Paradise Again album any good?

So far the signs are good that house music's most popular act are about to knock it out of the park with Paradise Again. Why is Swedish House Mafia's reunion a big deal?

Although they were only active for five years, the DJ trio Swedish House Mafia brought EDM to a mainstream fan base, popularising the genre with tunes that were perfect whether you heard them on the radio or the dance floor. Their fan base love them for good reason – they know how to create progressive electronic sounds that retain an accessible pop sheen.

It seems absence has made the heart grow fonder, as their first reunion shows in Stockholm in 2018 showed. A press release for that event, which was billed as a one-off at the time, read, 'That dream of seeing Swedish House Mafia return has become reality as Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello have now chosen to put the past behind them and come together, not just as Swedish House Mafia but as artists, and more importantly as three best friends with a message.'

The pandemic appears to have something to do with their return to the recording studio. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 last July, band member Steve Angello said: "We had some time together now and during the pandemic... The only positive thing about the pandemic was we got the year. So [we] just went in there and just dove and discovered and tweaked the synths. And we have something that we love and we feel is super unique and especially unique to us and something that we stand for. All this new music is amazing."
