May release radar: new music from artists touring the UK this year

Discover the latest music from Arcade Fire, Harry Styles, Sharon Van Etten and more

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? The year seems to be flashing before our eyes and somehow it's already May. As the months fly by and we inch closer to summer, the evergreen promise of new music manifests before our eyes. The most anticipated albums of the year are set to release this month from acts including Arcade Fire, Harry Styles, Liam Gallagher and more.

What could be better than new music, you ask? The chance to see it live, we say. That's why we've put together a list of some stuff to look out for over May and how to see it live. Read on to discover the latest music announcements from your favourite artists and how to get tickets for their 2022 UK tours.

Arcade Fire – WE

Arcade Fire fans could barely hold onto their hats last week as the critically-acclaimed Canadian rockers released their sixth studio album WE, along with the news of a 2022 world tour. Read on to find out where you can see the five-piece performing the new album live in the UK.

The follow up to 2017's Everything Now was recorded in New Orleans by Nigel Godrich as well as husband and wife band members Win Butler and Régine Chassagne. It also marks the last piece of material that Will Butler worked on before announcing his departure from the band last month.

Taking its name from Yevgey Zamyatin's dystopian novel, tracks such as 'Anxiety I, II' and 'The Lightning I, II' follow themes of anxiety and isolation in the digital age. The myriad of instruments fuel these tracks with the familiar vigour of previous albums such as 2013's Reflektor. Amongst the existential chaos there are also tender and heartwarming gems such as 'Unconditional I'.

The group released the first single from the album 'Unnecessary Drama' in March and recently shared a brand new video for 'Talk To Me, Talk To Me' which was written and directed by 15-year-old siblings Freya and Rosalie Salkeld after the band put out an open call to filmmakers.

A Bit Of Previous is the first studio-length album to come from the BRIT award-winners in seven years and was recorded in their hometown of Glasgow, the first project to be recorded in the city since Fold Your Hands Child in 1999.

The record includes a diverse range of styles and genres which confront the passing of time, survival and responsibility. Tracks vary from heartfelt ballads such as 'Do It For Your Country', intense choir-backed epic 'If They're Shooting At You Kid' and upbeat, synth-heavy tune 'Talk To Me, Talk To Me'.

Sharon Van Etten – We Are Going About This All Wrong

The sixth album to come from indie-rocker Sharon Van Etten, We've Been Going About This All Wrong dropped on Friday and is already in the critics' good books. Though the New-Jersey singer-songwriter released two singles before the album's release, 'Porta' and 'Used To It' don't appear on the powerful new record.

Instead the Remind Me Tomorrow follow-up includes ten never-before-heard songs such as melancholic and guitar-driven ballads 'Born', 'Home To Me' and 'Come Back' and forlorn epics like 'Darkness Fades' and 'Home To Me'.

We've Been Going About This All Wrong will accompany Van Etten on her 2022 The Darkness Fades Tour. She'll call at several venues including London's O2 Academy Brixton, the O2 institute in Birmingham, O2 Academy in Leeds and Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom.

Possibly the busiest man in the music industry right now, Harry Styles will unleash his third album Harry's House on Friday 20 May. 'As It Was', the first single to come from the dreamboat since 2019's Fine Line, was devoured by fans when it was released last month as it's safe to say they're ready for more.

The 'Watermelon Sugar' superstar performed two unheard singles from the album, 'Boyfriends' and 'Late Night Talking' at this year's Coachella Festival. He also left fans speculating whether special guests Shania Twain and Lizzo would play a part in the album as they were brought out on stage during Harry's set to sing surprise duets including 'Man, I Feel Like A Woman' and 'I Will Survive'.

The former One Direction member will showcase the long-awaited contents of Harry's House during his huge Love On Tour venture this summer where he'll stop off at arenas in London, Glasgow and Manchester. He'll also play a one-off performance at London's O2 Academy Brixton at the end of this month.

The notoriously controversial indie-rock sensation Liam Gallagher will unveil his third solo studio album C'Mon You Know on Friday 27 May. He's already shared three singles from the upcoming record including 'Everything's Electric', 'Better Days' and 'C'Mon You Know'.

'Everything's Electric' was co-written with Foo Fighters legend Dave Grohl and hit charts in February of this year. Debuting at number 18 on the UK Singles Top 100, it's the former Oasis frontman's highest charting solo single yet, setting the album up in good stead.

The follow-up to Why Me? Why Not. will be performed in all its glory at multiple UK gigs throughout this summer including two performances at Knebworth Park supported by Kasabian, Paolo Nutini and more. He's also lined up a show at Manchester's Etihad Stadium and Glasgow's Hampden Park Stadium.
