Dutch violinist and conductor returns for a waltz with his Johann Strauss Orchestra
The great and outrageously popular classical artist Andre Rieu has announced a 2016 UK arena tour taking in 10 cities around the country with his famed 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra.
Rieu’s shows are always unique, often bringing a sense of humour alongside his obvious joy in the music. It is this colourful approach that has earned the Dutchman millions of fans around the world, with his tours regularly appearing in the Billboard Charts Top 25 along with the likes of Elton John, Miley Cyrus and Bon Jovi. In 2012 he played 30 concerts in Sao Paolo alone, was the bestselling artist in Australia 2008, 2009 and 2010, and regularly makes the UK top 5 album charts.
With his new album, Magic of the Waltz, released in April this year, Rieu will embark on his UK – And the Waltz Goes On – tour in December with a brand new programme that promises to include musical, opera, movies, world music, pop, international soloists and, of course, some of the world’s most romatic waltzes.
‘Every night, everywhere in the world I invite my audience to get up from their seats and dance with us,’ says Rieu. ‘I can’t tell you how fantastic it is to see people from every continent waltz to our music, whether they’d be young or old.
‘You will find every sentiment in a waltz. Happiness, joy, melancholy, and love. And last but not least, do you know that it is scientifically proven that waltzing is good for your health? A waltz a day keeps the doctor away.’
