Carmen on Ice announces London run

Ice production will visit London’s SSE Arena in January 2017

Ice skating phenomenon Carmen on Ice will visit London’s SSE Arena next year. The show’s run will take place from Wed 11–Sun 15 Jan.

More than 60 world, Olympic and European championship skaters team up with a host of ballet dancers, Flamenco dancers, circus performers, musicians and singers to create the cast for the production, which is Ilya Averbukh’s take on Georges Bizet’s opera of lust and tragedy. The action is set against visual imagery on the ice, in the air and through 3D projection while Roman Ignatiev’s score lends a contemporary edge to opera.

Director Ilya Averbukh is renowned as the leading name in ice production. Previously an award-winning ice dancer, he made the move into directing and choreography and is probably best known for his Small Stories of a Big City, which played at Kensington Gardens during the 2012 Olympics. His performances have toured the world 11 times and have been seen by more than six million people both live and on television.

Tickets on sale Fri 1 Jul at 9am.
