Legendary hip-hop group to play at Eventim Apollo on Thu 5 Jul
Run DMC are set to return to the UK for the first time in three years, with a show at London's Eventim Apollo on Thu 5 Jul. Presale tickets for the show are available through Ticketmaster from 9am on Thu 25 Jan, with tickets on general sale at 10am on Fri 26 Jan.
One of the most influential and famous acts in hip-hop history, the group, featuring MC's Joseph 'Run' Simmons and Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels and the late DJ Jason 'Jam Master Jay' Mizell burst onto the music scene in the early 1980s with a more aggressive and edgy sound than the genre had been known for at that point.
They helped pioneer the 'new school' hip-hop sound, and became the first rap group to be nominated for a Grammy Award, the first to have a video on rotation on MTV and the first to reach the cover of Rolling Stone.
Their groundbreaking self-titled album, released in 1984, featured the tracks 'It's Like That', ''Sucker MC's', 'Hard Times' and '30 Days', with the group continuing to be a huge influence throughout the 80s and 90s, before the murder of Jam Master Jay in 2002. Simmons and McDaniels will return to London this summer, an unmissable night for fans of hip-hop.
