This theatre opened in 1939, and is known for hosting everything from musicals and operas to pantomimes. It is currently undergoing a major refurbishment, and will be open again in September 2017 with a major backstage extension to allow for a much wider range of visiting productions. Laurel and Hardy performed in 1947.

In its previous guise, as Hull's Assembly Rooms, Charles Dickens read from his work in 1859 and 1860 in the building.
